Wrx Comp Rules 2019 22/09/2022 WARRIX FLYING GROUP CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP – Rules

LONGEST GLIDE:

TAKE-OFF, CLEAR THE END OF THE STRIP THEN CLIMB FOR EXACTLY 30 SECONDS, THROTTLE BACK, STOP THE ENGINE AND GLIDE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE; FINISHING BACK WITHIN THE LANDING STRIP.

Pilot will be asked to open the throttle to check that their engine has stopped and timing will commence only when this is confirmed. (A maximum of 15 seconds is allowed, otherwise the attempt is aborted). An additional 30 seconds will be added to the glide time if model lands anywhere within the sawdust target. (Taken at the point where the wheels first touch down). No score is given if landing is out-with the strip. Note current altitude limit of 400ft for SAA Members.

SPOT LANDING:

TAKE-OFF, CLEAR THE END OF THE STRIP, AND LAND BACK INSIDE THE SAWDUST TARGET WITHIN ONE MINUTE.

Pilot can have as many circuits as wished within the one minute, but once the wheels have touched the ground, the attempt is over. The sawdust target contains bands of - 50, 30, 20 points; with scoring based on where the wheels first touch down. (Touching a sawdust ring between bands counts as the higher of the two scores). 10 points are awarded for landing outside the target, anywhere on the landing strip; and no points if out-with the strip, or time. A proper landing is required, not a ‘dive’ at the target, otherwise the score is halved.

LOOPS:

TAKE-OFF, COMPLETE ONE CIRCUIT (CLEARING EACH END OF THE STRIP) AND PERFORM AS MANY INSIDE LOOPS' AS POSSIBLE IN FRONT OF THE TIMEKEEPER; AND THEN LAND BACK WITHIN THE LANDING STRIP, WITHIN TWO MINUTES.

Timing starts when model commences its take-off run and finishes when wheels touch down. Poor quality loops, or those executed while drifting off course, will be excluded. Also, the number of loops is halved if model lands out-with the strip or the time limit is exceeded.

TOUCH AND GOES:

TAKE-OFF, COMPLETE ONE CIRCUIT (CLEARING EACH END OF THE STRIP) AND PERFORM AS MANY 'TOUCH AND GOES' AS POSSIBLE IN TWO MINUTES, WITHIN THE LANDING STRIP – IN EITHER DIRECTION USING THE FULL LENGTH OF THE STRIP. (NO NEED TO HAVE LANDED WITHIN THE TIME LIMIT).

If the engine stops after the attempt has started, it may be restarted, but timing continues. Note that wheels must touch the ground and the model take off and clear the strip under power to be counted. (A landing, or any Touch and Goes out-with the strip, do not count).

BOMB DROP:

TAKE-OFF, COMPLETE ONE CIRCUIT (CLEARING EACH END OF THE STRIP) AND DROP THE BOMB INSIDE THE SAWDUST TARGET WITHIN ONE MINUTE, AND THEN LAND BACK WITHIN THE STRIP. (NO NEED TO HAVE LANDED WITHIN THE TIME LIMIT).

Pilot can have as many circuits as wished within the one minute. Only one Bomb / egg etc is allowed and it can be released by any means the Pilot wishes. The sawdust target contains bands of - 50, 30, 20 points; with scoring based on where the egg first hits the ground. (Touching a sawdust ring between bands counts as the higher of the two scores. 10 points are awarded for hitting outside the target, anywhere on the landing strip; and no points if out-with the strip or time. The release must take place at a minimum height of 20 feet, with the model flying forward (Not hovering), otherwise only 10 points is awarded.

SCORING:

Points awarded for each event in which a score was achieved, are -

                           1st    -   30 Points       6th   -   20 Points        11th  -  10 Points

                                                                                             16th  -  Etc  - 0 points.

These are totalled at the end to give a final score. NOTE: For safety, all Pilots will be accompanied by an assistant. As in normal flying, all take offs will take place from approximately the centre-line of the strip, or further over, with a shallow climb until clearing the end of the strip and must not commence until instructed to do so by the Timekeeper, who will assist during the event by counting down the time. After take-off Pilot and assistant must move back off the strip to the Pilots stance for the whole flight.
